WOW What a year

Posted on 19th December, 2016

So the end of the year is racing towards us and what a year its been. Tracy Park has got new investment and there has been over £2 million spent on the courses with a new irrigation system and an intense program of green maintenance. The transformation in such a short time is amazing and so pleasing to see.

For myself my Get into Golf sessions were a great success and I am looking to build on these next year. For the sixth year in a row I have been awarded a Gloucestershire County Academy Squad for the 2017 season. My Under 16 squad this year all improved, learned some great new ways to practice and some have graduated onto the full Gloucestershire Golf Union Performance Squads.

My coaching has been a great success this with all my clients showing improvements in their game, ball striking, scoring and golf fitness. The  performance was one of my clients who won 8 trophies in a 12 week period and cut her handicap from 26 to 20.

A massive highlight was I finally got to play the Old Course at St. Andrews in June. It was a great trip with the members and I would recommend it to anyone as one of them said "Its Disney World for golfers". We got to play the Jubilee, The New Course, The Eden, The Old Course and The Castle with amazing weather.

On the playing side I did not get to play in many professional tournaments sadly, but when given the chance I have got out on both the courses and played reasonably well. I use Game Golf to track my rounds and to highlight what areas need improving. My average score this year is 73.5, my Game Golf handicap is +0.2, I average 1.6 putts per hole, fairway accuracy is 53%, greens in regulation is 62%, scrambling is 52% and my longest drive was 332yds. My best score for the year was 64 on the Crown course on Captains Day.

I am looking forward to continue with this success into 2017 and get more people playing golf and improving.

Royal Birkdale and Beyond

Posted on 1st June, 2015

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay since my first Blog, but spring arrived and the season took off.  One of my main highlights is that I got to play Royal Birkdale and Formby Golf Club in March, two fabulous courses and well worth a game.  I would say Formby was slightly the harder of the two courses with lots of heather just off the fairways.

Royal Birkdale is a great Open Championship course and very fair.  If you hit the ball properly on a good line you get rewarded, alternatively if you get wayward it eats you alive.  I managed to get round without loosing a ball and only being 1 over par.  Speaking of balls I tested the new Srixon Z Star ball on that trip and its a seriously good ball.  Very stable in the wind, long off the tee but surprisingly soft around the greens and easy to control with chip and pitch shots.

County Academy Squad training is going very well with both of my squads showing improvements and reductions in their handicaps.  It won't be long before they will move up to full County Coaching Squads, the future of Gloucestershire County Golf is looking very rosie indeed.

Life at Tracy Park has been busy with Societies, Charity Days, Golf Breaks and the start of the summer season medals for the members.  I can't believe we are in June already time flies when you are busy and enjoying your work.

Catch you soon and I won't leave it so long for my next Blog.

Welcome to my first post

Posted on 17th March, 2015

Hi and welcome to my first blog.

I have been busy over the last few days promoting my free golf lessons in April and coaching my two Gloucestershire County Academy Squads.

Both the Under 14 Development Squad and the Under 16 Future's Squad are really good this year making for a bright looking future for the Gloucester Golf Union teams.  Its great seeing 9 year olds on the range being able to hit draws, fades, high and low shots on demand.

The Under 16's will be working hard on their short game in preparation for their short game handicap test in April, this will highlight the areas they need to work on to get their handicaps down and move up to the ful  Under 16 GGU Squad.

Catch up with you again soon.
